Your gift of time, expertise and compassion could be the reason a Dallas family is able to stay in their home. There are many opportunities to volunteer with Escape Eviction, from organizing food and clothing drives, to providing specialized support as an attorney, counselor or translator. Please view the options below, and contact us to volunteer. Volunteers must complete a background check and training.
Community Service Hours: Due to the nature of the services we provide, general volunteer opportunities for students or adults seeking volunteer hours are limited. Please contact us with any questions prior to signing up.
Teach a Legal Clinic
Attorneys and law school professors who have a heart for preventing homelessness can make an immediate impact by volunteering to lead a legal clinic with Escape Eviction. This opportunity only requires a time commitment of two to three hours on one evening, scheduled at your convenience. We schedule legal clinics as needed, with the goal of providing free education on tenant rights and responsibilities, and free legal advice to help tenants address disputes with landlords. To serve as a volunteer, attorneys must be licensed by the State Bar of Texas, but need not specialize in real estate law.
Be a Legal Clinic Aid
We welcome volunteers to help with administrative tasks, such as completing paperwork for tenants facing legal actions.
Serve as a Translator
Do you speak Spanish or another language fluently? We welcome your assistance as a translator.
Volunteer as a Mental Health Counselor
For people in crisis, financial difficulties are often just the tip of the iceberg. Many of our clients are dealing with stressful life events such as divorce, job loss, medical problems or mental health concerns. If you are a counselor interested in sharing your gifts to serve those in need, please consider volunteering with Escape Eviction. No major time commitment is required.
Teach a Workshop in Financial Literacy or Life Skills
Do you have life experience or financial expertise that could help individuals facing financial difficulties leading to eviction? Volunteer to teach a workshop in Financial Literacy, Life Skills, Resume Building, or another topic that might be of interest to our program participants. Sample topics could include Planning a Budget, Preparing Low-Cost Meals, Resume Building and Interviewing, and more. Please contact us for more information.
Organize a Donation Drive
Escape Eviction is always in need of specific items to assist our clients. We may collect clothing, furniture or other items to help those in need. If you are interested in organizing a donation drive, please contact us for a list of current most-needed items.
