Our 2025 Recap

As 2025 wraps up, I’m reflecting on the fact that approximately 4,000 eviction cases were filed each month across Dallas County. Yet I am proud that Escape Eviction helped to address this staggering issue. Some of Escape Eviction’s 2025 milestones include:

  • Establishing a Rapid Response Fund: When a family is behind on rent or utilities, time is of the essence. Escape Eviction acts quickly to fill critical gaps, often just enough to prevent a lockout.

  • Resource Consolidation: Dallas has numerous resources, but they are rather scattered in the community. Escape Eviction serves as a “human bridge” that easily connects people with access to legal assistance, budgeting help, and local partners so they do not fall behind again.

  • Dignity Restoration: This one is a difficult measurement, but I witnessed it. People often contact us feeling scared and ashamed. Yet Escape Eviction helps to champion their confidence and provide unconditional support.

One of the highlights of my year was being at a weekly volunteer meeting when I heard how many “almost evictions” got turned around. While not every story ends perfectly, many stories did end with a family remaining housed.

Going forward, we plan to strengthen relationships and communication with landlords. Landlords are more willing to stop filings when they know that a family is working with us on payment plan options.

In addition, we are working to secure partnerships with Dallas schools to identify students whose families may be on the brink of eviction. This can help us quickly intervene before housing instability becomes a crisis.

Thank you for supporting Escape Eviction, whether by donating, volunteering, sharing, or just caring. In 2026 and beyond, let’s ensure that eviction prevention becomes a norm in Dallas – and not an exception.
